About
Our services focus on architecture, universal design and accessibility consulting, design and facility auditing - new buildings and renovations.
The Halifax office opened in 2005, following fifteen years in the Toronto firm Paula Bowley Anne Sinclair Architects Inc. Our work with the Barrier Free Design Centre, DisAbled Women’s Network and CMHC led to an ongoing commitment to universal design.
Universal design means that all spaces are accessible to as many as possible, no matter the nature of one’s current or future ability. It is a creative design approach - an essential part of the process from the beginning, resulting in beautiful integrated solutions, well-suited to each site and each user’s needs.
We employ people with lived experience of disability to collaborate on every project, and use standards developed by people with lived experience: CSA B651 Accessibility in the Built Environment, DeafSpace Guidelines, CNIB Clearing our Path Guidelines.
As a certified Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Professional, Anne conducts in-depth reviews of existing facilities and prospective projects.
The firm’s architectural work has won 2 Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia awards, for community projects SHYM (Supportive Housing for Young Mothers) and Ark Outreach.
Anne is a LEED certified professional, committed to environmental sustainability. Our Fort Needham Park Washroom is the City of Halifax’s first net zero new building.
We acknowledge that we live and work in Mi’kma’ki, on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People. This territory is protected by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship.”
